Learners use a range of tools, materials, skills and techniques to explore, design and make products and systems that meet human needs.”Working in stimulating projects they engage in a course of personal development, learning to use today's technologies in order to help develop tomorrow's.Design and Technology is compulsory at Moreton.During key stage 3, pupils learn how to design for many different purposes, and to manufacture their work. They make prototypes and use other production aids such as computer-aided manufacture (CAM) and computer-aided design (CAD), patterns, templates and moulds and develop systems to ensure product quality. Pupils develop their research and marketing skills, and frequently explore the social, cultural, environmental and economic effects of the things they make. Students then choose a subject area to pursue at GCSE, AS or A level. At GCSE students pick one of the following focus areas: resistant materials, food, product design, manufacturing, or graphic products. At A level and AS level students can specialise in product design. For coursework, students may work for almost the whole year on a topic that interests them.Technology is a successful and popular subject area at Moreton: a specialist Technology College.Every year an exhibition of the best work is held around Easter time. At the end of every year, students have gone on to university to continue the studies in Design that began right here.”
