Creative Arts
The Art department aims to offer the pupils a balanced and structured curriculum.
We are developing our schemes of work along the guidelines laid down in the National Curriculum for
Art and Design KS3.
The students will be able to work in a wide variety of media, using two dimensional and three dimensional
techniques. They will be developing their skills in order to be able to work independently, reviewing and
modifying their work.
We have developed our schemes of work to give the students a broad experience of Art skills as well as
developing the understanding and appreciation of different kinds of Art. We expect the students to be able
to apply this knowledge to their own ideas and review their work with a developing visual literacy.
We track the use of the National Curriculum in our Assessment and Recording documentation. This gives a
meaningful progression to the schemes from Years 7 to 9 reflecting the broad range of experience we aim
to give the students.
The schemes of work will be delivered using a variety of teaching styles; pupils being taught through
teacher led activities as well as being encouraged to work both independently or as a member of a group.
Cross-curricular links, with other subject areas are a developing aspect of the course.
Students are regularly assessed on class work and homework by staff.
